Sessions & Fees

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long, although some clients prefer to meet for longer periods of time, which can easily be arranged. The frequency of therapy varies depending on an individual’s needs, but I suggest no less than once a week. This may seem like a lot. Psychotherapy, just like physical therapy and most other therapies, is an investment in yourself. It is often helpful to start with more session time. I often find that when clients come in to my office having had an unsatisfying experiences with their previous therapist, they were going twice a month. It is difficult to create real change with such infrequency. I have a standard fee and am happy to discuss it with you prior to starting therapy. Whether you come in for a free consultation, or you prefer to talk by phone or email, we will both agree to a fee before beginning our work together.

Free Consultations

I offer free 15-20 minute consultations for new clients. We can use that time to determine if I’m a good match for you. I can also discuss my fee with you at that time. If, for whatever reason you decide not to work with me, I will help you find another therapist who may be a better match.

Payment

I accept cash, personal checks and credit cards.

Insurance

I am an “out-of-network provider” for PPO insurances. At the end of each month I will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement. It is often helpful to call your insurance company prior to starting therapy to find out what they cover. Helpful questions include:

  • Do I have mental health coverage?
  • What is my deductible, and has it been met? If not, how much have I met?
  • For an out-of-network provider, what percentage of my bill will be covered?
  • How many sessions will be covered per calendar year?

Cancellation Policy

Once an appointment has been scheduled, you will be expected to pay for it unless you provide 24-hours advance notice of cancellation. I do, however, take into account unusual or unexpected circumstances that prevent you from attending a scheduled session. I understand that emergencies and sickness happen.
